R-Type, a classic shoot 'em up, made its mark in arcades and home consoles before its arrival on the NEC PC-FX. The PC-FX release offered the intense, vertically scrolling shoot 'em up gameplay with challenging enemy patterns and the distinctive R-Type power-up system. Known for its high difficulty and rewarding sense of accomplishment upon completion, R-Type has been produced and developed by Irem.
